We have just found out our itinerary for the ICW Rally with Wally Moran.

                            Fun Fun Fun!

Sunday 19 June 2016

As the time to leave is getting closer the troubles on the boat are almost all fixed. I am still waiting for Roy's Marine to fix the fridge , engine water pump and install new glow plugs. Heather and Butch Medland had a send off party for us and we both had a great time seeing everyone. It's going to be hard not seeing all our friends and I hope everyone can come for a visit. We both have one more week of work and then we can finally get the boat out for a sail to see if everything is working right.

I'm Being Tested
The boat went in on May 27 and that's when it all went bad! The boat wouldn't start So I spent the weekend in the launch dock. Roy the mechanic came on Sunday and found the glow plugs need to be replaced. We got the boat to my slip and the work began getting every thing ready. I knew that trying to get away on a big trip something would break or not be working. It's now June 12 and I'm still trying to keep up with everything not working. After I got the boat to the slip Roy noticed that the engine water pump was leaking, so now I need the seals done on the water pump. My friend Simon came and gave me a hand doing some wiring. I made all the connections for all my new instruments. I spent three days trying to get these instruments working to find out there was a defective power cable feeding the instruments. So I ran a wire for that. Leaving that to connect later. So I moved to checking the shower sump pump. I was having trouble with it at the end of last year so I new I had to do some trouble shooting with this. The pump would trip the breaker after ten seconds. Everyone told me its a short in the wire. I first replaced the piece of wire from the pump to the switch. That wasn't it. Then I pulled a new wire from the switch to the fuse panel, That wasn't it. So now I have a new breaker on order. The weather was getting warm so to keep the drinking water cold I turned on the fridge to keep the water cold. So now I find out the fridge doesn't work. So I called Roy to order a new compressor. When I talked with Roy he tells me that's it's almost impossible to get glow plugs. I went on line to find that no one can get these glow plugs. So I'm leaving it up to Roy. Cleaning out the water tanks I caused a problem with the water pump. The water pump is shorting out so that's another problem to look at later. This weekend I completed connecting the instruments. I wanted to test to see if  everything works so turning everything on I found that the stereo and the VHF radio is turning on and off by it self. So now I have to fix the desalinater, VHF radio , stereo, water pump, shower sump pump. Roy will be getting the fridge, engine water pump and glow plugs installed. Two more weeks to go and it just seams impossible to get everything done.

After six coats of Interprotect Epoxy comes two coats of Antifouling. I'm putting on two antifouling coats because we are expected to be away for two years. After the blue wears off I will begin to see the red coat and I will know when it's time to lift out the boat to apply more antifouling. With the extra left over paint, I put a lot more around the water line where the antifouling will wear off faster. I will be very interested to see how long it will last.

First coat red.

Second coat blue

I needed to spend more money so I'm having a new rudder installed. You can see in this picture Peter from Northshore Boatworks has dropped the old rudder and is waiting to have the boat lifted to install a new one.
