Back to heat and bugs, but I'm not complaining!

We left Beaufort NC early for Swansboro for and anchorage in front of the town docks. There was only 8 docks available so some of us had to anchor in the harbor. Some one from the town came out and put on a little dock party. They had sandwiches, mussels, cheeses, beer, wine all for free. This is great. We missed the party because we were out with friends Debby and Bet from Nanaimo BC that are now living in Jacksonville NC. It was so great to get off the boat and see some of North Carolina with a different view. Thank you Debby and Bet we had a great time. Swansboro was just an overnight stop so off to Wrightsville Beach NC the next day. It was a long day and some people ran aground. After Mathew there has been a lot of shoaling in the canal so you have to be on top of your driving all the time. We haven't run aground yet but that could happen at any time. We are so lucky Laurie's at the wheel! We arrived at Wrightsville beach late after noon and went ashore, as most pirates do. The Atlantic in the background.

We woke up in the morning to a little show.

Next stop was Southport NC. Southport is a very nice town close to the ocean. We were told that this is a great place to retire. The Gulf Stream comes as close as 18 miles of shore and keeps the temperature warm in the winter. Also the housing is very cheap!  Here's some pictures walking around town.

Here's some pictures on our way to Southport.
 Look at this pink house!
 Passing Camp Lejeune
 Hurricane boat

We left early for a long day to Great Dunes Marina in North Myrtle Beach SC. It was a long day because we had to motor into the wind and against the tide currents. Here's some pictures along the way.
There are six different types of cormorants in this area. Here's one drying his wings in the wind
More damage from Hurricane Mathew

We heard that there are a lot of people in South Carolina that don't have a lot and they live in shacks. I took some pictures of some of those shacks. Those poor people!

Tomorrow we will be off for Osprey Marina in Myrtle Beach. It's going to be a short fifteen mile run.

OK it's time for
"So Here's Interesting Tidbits! SHIT for short
I took this picture at the Beaufort town docks. It reads

This small town must have been very proud of one of there own.

Beaufort North Carolina is the third oldest port in North Carolina. Beaufort has survived pirates hurricane's, depression's and tourism. It is known as the "Gateway To The Caribbean" because in the fall the gulf stream comes as close as forty mills from shore and it will carry sailors to the Bahamas in four days.

I did not know that!
